«The Godfather» parmi les meilleurs films de genre de l'AFI

L'American Film Institute a dévoilé hier soir, sur les ondes du réseau américain CBS, son nouveau palmarès annuel consacré cette fois-ci aux films de genre. Dans ce spécial intitulé «AFI's 10 TOP 10», dix films étaient choisis dans dix genres représentés par des westerns, des longs-métrages d'animation ou de science-fiction, des films de gangsters, de sports, de mystère, des comédies romantiques, des drames juridiques et des films épiques.
Parmi les films qui ont été choisis en première position de leur catégorie respective mentionnons «Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs» (1937), catégorie animation ; «The Wizard of Oz» (1939), catégorie fantastique ; «The Godfather» (1972), catégorie gangster ; «2001: A Space Odyssey» (1968), catégorie science-fiction ; «The Searchers» (1956), catégorie western ; «Raging Bull» (1980), catégorie sports ; «Vertigo», (1958), catégorie mystère ; «City Lights» (1931), catégorie comédie romantique ; «To Kill a Mockingbird» (1962), catégorie drame juridique et «Lawrence of Arabia» 1962, catégorie épopée.
Pour déterminer le palmarès, 1 500 cinéastes, acteurs, critiques et autres joueurs hollywoodiens devaient faire leur choix parmi une liste de 50 films par catégorie.
L'institut a dressé sa première liste des 100 meilleurs films américains il y a dix ans. «Citizen Kane» figurait en première place du premier palmarès consacré aux meilleurs films américains. Les thèmes touchés par l'AFI incluent " AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Stars" (1999), " ... 100 Laughs" (2000), " ... 100 Thrills" (2001), " ... 100 Passions" (2002), " ... 100 Heroes & Villains" (2003), " ... 100 Songs" (2004), " ... 100 Movie Quotes" (2005), "…100 Cheers” (2006) et "AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Movies - 10th Anniversary Edition" (2007).
